Today as a bit of an early Mothers day event the four of us went out and painted pottery.
Here is how it works, you go to a pottery place, pick a piece, paint it, and the come back in a week and it has been fired and is all glossy looking.
As a family event this is not really cheap but it allows everyone to really interact. In our case we shopped around a bit and my four year old son got a little 12 dollar dinosaur, while my eight year old daughter got a 26 dollar turtle piggybank and my wife and I just helped the kids with colors and painting. For the kids there is a sitting/painting fee and no cost to us.
This has been a great chance for all of us to interact. All of us tend to have our own things that keep us busy and having us all together with these little clay figures to paint has helped us be cooperative and creative. The money to me has really been worth it for us to spend a couple of hours together.
Oh and the cost today was $50. I thought it was OK, my wife thought it was way too much for the day. Maybe when our son is a little older and a little more involved with crafts things will be a bit different.
