Most of the attractions of Coney Island close either immediately or shortly after Labor Day. The beach and promenade are real open to the public throughout the year, sometimes they are simply more lonely than others. Nathan s Hot Dogs and the New York Aquarium remain open after the summer season is over and operate most days throughout the year. The Coney Island Museum is open on weekends from 12:00 to 5:00 PM year round. During the summer season when tourism is high along the sidewalk the two major theme parks: Astroland and Wonder Wheel Deno s Park features sponsor fireworks on Fridays at 9:30.
Coney Island Amusement Park
The amusement parks of Coney Island are only part of the attraction but they work to bring many people to this very unique place of entertainment each year. Astroland Amusement Park is the largest amusement park in New York. The cyclone is the most famous walk in the park, and this is a ride that is well known by lovers of roller coaster in the world. It is a wooden roller coaster that offers quite a thrilling ride. Other great rides in this park include Astroflume, Break dancer, the Astroland Carousel, balance sheets, Top Spin, Dante s Inferno, Power Surge, and Astro Tower. For younger guests there is a very good selection of toys for children that will keep them entertained while older children enjoy some of the more thrill-oriented rides. If you’re looking for a day of good food and lots of fun in the sun Astroland is a great place to be.
Deno s Wonder Wheel Park is most famous for its Wonder Wheel. The cars on this magnificent ride are red, white and blue (rather patriotic of them was not it?) With the balance of red and blue cards and stationery white cars. The Spook-A-Rama is another popular, if not frightening ride that is offered to Wonder Wheel Deno s Park. If you need a dose of emotion and try the Super Shot, but only if you’re 52 , or more, or Thunderbolt, which has a 48 height requirement. And the day at Coney Island would not be complete without a taste of bumper cars? There are also plenty of rides for little ones to choose from in your ride, too.
New York Aquarium
For something a little more sedate than thrills and chills at amusement parks, Coney Island is also home to the New York Aquarium in Coney Island. This is a great way to learn about marine life and enjoy your children watching fascinating sea creatures that would be unlikely to see in other circumstances. There are over 8,000 animals represented in the aquarium in New York. Not only is this a fascinating adventure of your own, you will not have to sacrifice your style in order to appreciate it.
The Coney Island Museum is also worth a peek. You’ll find relics of old rides and memorabilia of days gone no museum as well as an incredible view of the tours available today. The price tag is more affordable at 99 cents and is a nice place to visit and stay out of the sun for a while. No trip to Coney Island is really complete without at least stop at the museum. Moreover, these may be the cleanest toilets on the island. Coney Island is one of the great things about a visit to New York. If you can plan your trip to New York when the parks are open and the sidewalk is busy I recommend you spend a night out on weekends on the boardwalk.
