The Best Ways To Handle Altitude Sickness

April 6, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

When you are traveling to the mountains, there is a chance that you may suffer from altitude sickness once you reach your destination. When you are at higher altitudes the air is much thinner, which can cause dizziness, headaches and/or nausea. The tips provided here will help you to avoid the symptoms so that you might have a more enjoyable trip.

When you are on your way to the mountains you should make it a point to stop somewhere along the way for a couple of days. Going from flat land directly into the mountains is an easy way to cause altitude sickness. Stopping when you are about halfway there will give your body a chance to adjust to the altitude changes. Take a few days to allow your body to get used to it then continue on to your original destination.

Take some time to rest once you get to your destination. Even if you have already stopped a few times to adjust to the altitude changes, you should still take some time to let your body adapt to the rise in altitude. For the first day that you are up there you should relax and try not to do much of anything. Any plans you had for hiking, camping or any other physical activities should be postponed until the following day.

There is not much that you can do to alleviate the symptoms associated with being at such a high altitude. A lot of rest is one of the only solutions. If you are experiencing headaches, you should take a pain reliever. Other than that, too much cannot be done to make you feel much better. With a combination of pain relievers, rest and time you should feel better.

Even though you may feel a bit different than normal due to the altitude, it does not necessarily mean that you have altitude sickness. You have to watch your symptoms in order to see if they are getting more serious. If time is passing and you are still dizzy, nauseous and having head pain, you may have to cut your trip short.

Leaving the mountains and getting somewhere that has a much lower altitude is sometimes the only way to make symptoms stop. Do not let your symptoms get too bad before you try to make your move. More serious symptoms of altitude sickness include tightness in the chest area, shortness of breath and confusion. If you experience any of those system, leave to get help right away, since there have been severe cases of altitude sickness that have ended in death.

Most of the time the symptoms of altitude sickness make you feel the same as you would if you were suffering from a hangover. Other times the symptoms are much more serious and can become critical if you do not leave the mountains. The information you have just read should help you find ways for your body to adjust so that you can relax and enjoy your trip.

Ten Tips To Use For The Ideal Road Trip

April 5, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Nothing in the world is as fun as going on a road trip and creating fun memories. But, a road trip can go terribly wrong when you are not properly prepared. The following article is going to give you advice to ensure your road trip goes flawless.

Figure out the route you are taking prior to leaving. Sure, sometimes it is fun to just get in the car and take off, but it is important that you know where you are heading to. Getting lost somewhere can turn your road trip into a nightmare.

Before even leaving, get your car inspected and serviced. You want to make sure your car is in the best condition possible so it does not break down in the middle of your road trip. This means having your brakes, engine, tires and other car parts checked, and fixed, if needed.

The night prior to leaving, pack your car. The morning you leave is going to be hectic, so packing the car the night before leaving leaves one less thing for you. Just make sure to double check your items to make sure you remembered to put everything you need for a car.

Even if you have a GPS, bring paper maps with you. Of course, a GPS system is helpfully when taking a road trip, but should it break down, how are you going to find your way around. This is when paper maps will be of great assistance.

Have enough coins available for tolls. Many tolls do not accept paper money and it could be a hassle and waste of time getting the coins. The day before you leave for your road trip, gather coins, and if you do not have any, go to a store to get change.

Whether it is you or someone else driving, it is important that the drive is not drowsy. If you are drowsy when driving, or the person driving is getting tired, pull over and switch drivers. Take turns sleeping so everyone is well rested.

Make sure your car has a clean-up kit. Messes happen, even when driving on a road trip. Let’s say you spill your drink or food and you need something to clean it with? What are you doing to do if you do not have paper towels? Products used to clean up, such as paper products and cleaners, will come in handy.

If children will be with you on your road trip, be sure you have games with you. Children get easily bored when on the road, and bored children equals frustrated parents. Pack their favorite toys, portable game system, or anything else that will keep them entertained.

Put an extra key inside of your wallet. This will come in handy if you leave your car and happen to lock your keys in your car. You do not want to be on a road trip and have to call a professional to get you into you car.

When possible, take the scenic route. One of the most exciting parts of going on a road trip is looking at the beautiful surroundings and taking pictures of it to remember the good times. And first and foremost, on any road trip you take, enjoy yourself!

As you read in the beginning of the article, as fun as road trips can be, they can also go very sour. But, if you use helpful tips, like the ones you are given in this article, your trip should go off without a hitch.

Taking a Road Trip with Ferrets

April 4, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

If you are going on vacation and cannot find a sitter for your ferret, or you are moving to a different state and are, of course, taking your furry rascal with you, then you need to learn about traveling with ferrets. There are some important considerations, so keep reading!

The first thing to do is find out if ferrets are legal in all the of the areas where you are traveling and at your destination. In the United States, ferrets are illegal in California, Hawaii, some cities in New York, and some cities in Texas, among other places. If you are traveling to an area where ferrets are illegal, find a sitter and leave your ferret at home. If you are moving to an area where ferrets are illegal, contact your local ferret rescue and a ferret rescue organization at your destination. Get all the info available so you can make the right decision about whether or not to take your ferret with you.

Prior to traveling, take a quick trip to the veterinarian. Have the vet give your ferret a quick check up, and make sure he is up-to-date on all vaccinations. If there are any medical issues, now is the time to deal with them, no when your are two days away from home, sitting on a tropical beach watching your fuzzy splashing on the surf.

Stop frequently to give your ferret a few minutes to play, eat and drink. Your ferret should be caged while traveling for his own safety, but when you stop it is a good idea to let him out of the cage to roam a bit and have a bite of food. You should have water always available, when traveling using a water bottle is usually better than having a water dish in the cage. The cage should, however, be equipped with a small litter box as your ferret undoubtedly will need to use the facilities once or twice while on the road. If you are able, put a hammock in the travel cage, or at least several old shirts or a small blanket so he can sleep comfortably.

Calling ahead to hotels where you plan to stay is vital. Make sure they allow ferrets, and find out if there are extra fees involved so you are prepared. When you arrive at the hotel, get on your hands and knees to look around the room, under the bed and desks, and in the bathroom. Make sure the room is ferret-proof before letting your ferret out to explore this new environment. If you leave the room for any reason, make sure you cage your ferret first. It would not be good for housekeeping to discover your ferret as she is vacuuming.

Traveling with ferrets is a challenge, but with proper planning, you can do it! Use what you have learned to make your vacation or moving adventure with your ferret safe and comfortable. As long as you plan carefully, a vacation with your ferret can be a pleasant experience.

Summer Travel Tips

April 3, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

When you start planning your summer vacation, you are excited, nervous, and you are anticipating a holiday filled with fun. Make your summer holiday dreams come true by preparing for your trip properly.

If you are traveling abroad, check out immunization recommendations for the countries you plan to visit. You do not want to catch a disease that is rare in your home country while traveling, and bring it back with you. Not only does this become expensive with additional medical costs, but others could become sick as well. Even if you do not like needles, bite the bullet and take the shots.

Check your passport to make sure it has not expired and will not expire while you are traveling. An expired passport is an expensive and time-consuming delay. Take the time to check it over, and make sure you have any visas that are necessary while you are at it.

Purchase medical travel insurance to cover your family while you are traveling abroad. If you or a family member are pregnant, make sure you inform the travel insurance company. Some travel medical insurance policies do not cover pregnant travelers, so you want to be sure all potential medical issues are covered.

Spend a bit of time learning about what kind of weather you can expect at your travel destination. You want to know if you should pack sunscreen or winter boots. Many travelers assume that the weather at their destination location will be similar to the weather at home, and this is often not the case.

Trip cancellation or delay insurance is available. Get it. A delay or cancellation can be costly, so you want to be covered.

Make copies of your important documents. Keep one copy separate from your original documents, and email another copy to yourself. This way if all of your luggage is lost, you can access your documents via the internet. Virtually every country has internet access.

Check with your home country’s foreign travel department to determine if your destination country has any travel alerts. You need to be aware of travel alerts as these can delay your vacation.

Learn about the customs in the country you will be visiting. Learn how to greet someone properly, and how to address someone properly. In the United States, almost everyone is informal. In other countries, it is rude to address a stranger informally. These are a few things to be aware of when you travel. Respect the country you are visiting by learning their customs.

Give your itinerary to someone you trust at home. Make sure you tell that person of any changes, and keep in contact daily. If there is an emergency, you want someone who knows where you are and where you are supposed to be, so they can call the authorities if necessary.

Using these tips before you book your travel will help you prepare for your summer holiday. There is no need to waste time by waiting til the last minute, take the time to prepare in advance.

Stress Reduction Tips For The Airport

April 2, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

As security at airports gets tighter, stress levels of travelers rise. When traveling by air, there are some steps you can take that will reduce the amount of stress that you experience as you make your way from the car to your flight. Read through the tips that follow to get an idea about how you can make your air travels less stressful for you and your family.

First and foremost, book a flight that is nonstop to your destination. The more times you have to board a plane, the more stress you will experience. Having to dig your luggage out of the overhead compartment and spend time waiting for flights will increase the stress you will experience before you finally reach your destination. If you cannot get a direct flight, find one that does not have a long layover time and does not stop multiple times.

As you are purchasing your airline ticket, be sure to use the name that is listed on your photo identification, exactly as it appears. If there are any alterations, you may get caught up with security as you are trying to get to your gate. The delay could cause you to miss your flight and really mess up all of your plans.

Check the things that you have put in your carry-on bags. Find the latest regulations on the airport website, to be sure that everything that you have loaded into the bag falls within the regulations. These regulations are constantly changing, so do not assume that you know what you can and cannot bring in your carry-on bag.

Get to the airport well in advance of your flight’s departure. There are many things to do in the airport, so if you find that you have arrived and checked in too early, you can always find something to keep you entertained while you wait for your boarding call.

Once you arrive at the airport, go directly through security. This is the one place that you could really get held up. Do not think that you have plenty of time because the flight does not leave for an hour. You may get caught up behind someone else having difficulties getting through security, which in turn holds you up.

If you have small children traveling with you, ask if you can board last. The less time your children have to spend on the plane, the better. If you board first, your kids may become restless before the flight even takes off. Many times the airline will be very accommodating to parents with young children, so do not be afraid to ask.

If you were not fortunate enough to book a non-stop flight, inquire about the location of the terminal for your next flight, prior to exiting the plane. This way, you will not have to scramble looking for the information and making your way to the next terminal. It may mean the difference between making the flight and missing it.

Preparation and planning can go a long way in reducing the stress you experience at the airport. Use the above information to make your plans for a stress-free trip through the airport.
