Save Money on Your Next Traveling Adventure

March 22, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Many people love to travel but are held back because they think that it costs to much. The following article offers you some helpful tips that you can use to save yourself some money, should you decide to go on a trip.

If time is not a factor, you should consider using your car rather than a plane, especially if you have a big family. Although gas prices nowadays are high, you will still be able to cut your traveling costs down tremendously if you take your car. Also, with your car it provides a nice bonding experience for the entire family.

If you plan on spending time in another country, make sure you have the right currency. Check the exchange rates before you travel because you do not want to be caught in an unfamiliar country and not know what you should be getting for your money.

Look around on the internet or ask some friends if they know any travel deals that are going on at the moment. A good way to save money on travel is to take a trip during off peak hours. There are trains which run at night that offer super saver fares and red-eye flights you can take to save yourself a good amount of money. In order to save, be willing to travel on less popular days and hours that are not convenient for most people.

A good way to save yourself some money is to travel locally like to a town or city that is close by you. Most people never realize how many wonderful opportunities there are to go exploring close to home. Grab yourself a copy of the newspaper from the town next to yours or look online, because you would be surprised to find there might be some great traveling experiences close by that will not cost you and arm and a leg.

Often times airlines and hotels get together to offer customers a package deal. If you plan on staying at a hotel, you should ask about any travel deals with airline companies. Usually you can find great deals on the internet if you are not too picky about which hotel you stay at and airline you fly. This is a great way to save a lot of money!

I am sure you have seen those companies that advertise to bid your price online when you are booking a vacation. Take advantage of this opportunity if you do not mind having connecting flights or have no preference for the hotel you stay at. Many people have received amazing deals by bidding for flights and hotels through this process.

If you have a favorite airline you should continue to use it as there is a good chance they offer some kind of rewards program. If you are not signed up with one then contact an airline that flies out of your city and see what kind of rewards program they offer. Sometimes credit card companies offer reward points that you can put towards get free flights.

Traveling is stressful enough as is despite the costs that you pay, but it does not have to be that way if you get yourself a good travel deal. At least if you do that you can put more money towards having a fun time on your trip. So keep your eye out and look for those great travel deals!

Safety Tips for Women Traveling Alone

March 21, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

If you are a woman who is planning a solo road trip, this article is for you. Women travel safely across long distances all the time. It can be a liberating experience if you have never traveled alone. Use these tips to ensure a safe journey, and have fun!

Avoid spontaneous travel unless you have traveled alone many times. Take the time to plan your trip, as this also gives you time to get your car ready for travel. Also, if you plan your route then you can also plan where to stay at night during your trip.

Prepare your vehicle for the trip. Take it to a mechanic for a check-up. Fix any mechanical problems now, so you won’t have to worry about it on your trip. Get the oil changed and fluids topped off. Check your windshield wipers, and replace them if they are worn. The worst time to discover you need new wipers is while driving through a torrential rainstorm in Iowa. Take the time now to also purchase some type of road service, if don’t already have it. Make sure the service has coverage for your entire trip.

While planning your trip, you probably already decided what motels to stay at along the way. Good hotel choices include those with security personnel on-site, or if you are traveling on a budget, hotels with outside entrances to your room. If, when you arrive at the motel you planned to stay in, you do not feel comfortable or something seems off, give yourself permission to leave and keep driving until you find a suitable motel. You may have decided to stay at a motel in Indianapolis, but when you arrive, you notice security bars on all the doors and windows, and notice that the cashier is sitting behind bullet-proof glass. This motel is obviously in a bad neighborhood, and as a woman traveling alone, you may wish to drive to the next town before stopping for the night.

Stopping at roadside rest stops is fine during the day. There are often many travelers at the rest stop, and these are generally safe. At night, it is better to avoid roadside rest stops as they are often not well-lit, and there is little traffic to these areas at night. After dark, try to stop at truck stops instead. Truck stops are usually well-lit and there is plenty of traffic around the clock. There are always restrooms, fuel, and snacks available at truck stops. If you are tired and need to catch a quick nap before driving on, this is a good place to do so. Just choose a spot within easy sight of the building, keep your doors locked, and if approached, don’t roll your window down. Just crack it a little to see what the person wants. There is no need to be afraid, you might just have a tire low on air! Also, keep the keys in the ignition at all times when you are in the car.

It can be hard to enjoy your trip if you are stressed about being safe while traveling. Sometimes it takes some time to feel comfortable on the road alone, but once you start feeling more comfortable and confident, you can have a very enjoyable trip.

Safety Tips for Traveling Abroad

March 20, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Traveling abroad is exciting, but you need to take appropriate precautions to make sure your vacation goes smoothly. This article outlines how to make your vacation stress-free, safe, and fun.

Keep an emergency credit card on your person. This means in your pocket, not your purse or briefcase. If you are mugged or otherwise lose your money, you will still have a way to pay for necessary items and travel.

Carry both cash and travelers checks. The advantage of travelers checks is that they are replaceable. If you lose travelers checks or they are stolen, the bank will replace them. Travelers checks are not universally accepted, so carrying some cash is necessary as well.

Keep a note of where your country’s embassy or consulate is located. Also keep the phone number of these places. If you are traveling to a country where your country does not have an Embassy or consulate, find out in advance which one you should go to in case of emergency. For instance, if you are from the U.S. and are in a country without a U.S. embassy, you may wish to go to the Australian embassy. Have this information on your person at all times.

If it is safe to do so, keep your passport and valuables in the hotel safe. If you are traveling at budget hotels in seedy areas, it is better to keep your passport on your person. If you are staying in a high-end hotel that frequently caters to foreign guests, it is likely that you can leave your passport and valuables in that hotel’s safe.

Be aware of your surroundings. This means looking at maps of where you are traveling to familiarize yourself with the area prior to travel. Learn the routes to the police department and a hospital or clinic, as well as to your country’s embassy. Pay attention to who is near you, and if you get lost, have a way to get help.

Do not leave your belongings unattended. Carry important things with you or lock them in the hotel safe. If you leave luggage in your hotel room, do not take anything of value with you. This includes personal information. Personal information is as valuable as jewelery; protect it as such.

Before leaving, purchase travel insurance. Your insurance should cover medical needs, provide emergency funds, and cover lost or stolen belongings. You also need to be aware of evacuation protocols. If you are visiting a country that suffers a severe natural disaster while you are there, know how your country plans to evacuate its citizens. People have been stuck in foreign countries after natural disasters grounded all flights in and out. You could be stuck for days, weeks, or even months longer than planned. Plan for evacuation to avoid staying stuck.

With these tips, you can travel overseas, and you do not have to worry about problems because you will be prepared. There are dangers in any location, but being prepared will help you stay safe.

Roadside Emergency Kit Prep Tips

March 19, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

When traveling by car, you must be sure to be prepared for any accidents or car problems that may arise. The best way to prepare for these events is to pack a kit for roadside emergencies. This is especially important if you are traveling with children or through areas known for extreme conditions. Use the following guide as you pack an emergency kit for your car.

Make sure that you pack road flares so that your car will be visible if it is along the road. Also be sure to include jumper cables in your kit. You never know when you are going to have a dead battery, so being prepared is best.

A spare tire that is not in good condition is not going to be any good to you. Many travelers forget to check the condition of the spare tire before hitting the road and when the time comes to use it, they find that it is flat or dry-rotted. Keep a can of Fix-A-Flat in the compartment with the spare tire so you have the option of inflating the tire to get somewhere that is safer than on the roadside to put the spare on.

A flashlight with extra batteries must be included in your kit. You do not want to be stranded on a country road without any light to see where you are going or what you are doing to get the car back on the road.

Pack some energy snacks and bottled water. You may find yourself stranded for long periods of time and you need to have the means to feed yourself and stay hydrated. Be sure to include enough to care for everyone traveling with you for at least three days.

A good first aid kit is essential. Make sure that it includes everything that you might need to tend to cuts and abrasions along the road. It should have instant ice packs, gauze, Neosporin, rubbing alcohol and peroxide among many other things. You can never have too many first aid supplies when in an accident.

Pack enough emergency blankets for everyone that is traveling with you. Even the hottest climates can quickly drop temperature when the sun goes down. If you have limited space in your car, look for the shiny silver emergency blankets that will keep you warm but do not take up much space.

If you are traveling into climates where snow is a possibility, be sure to pack some snow shovels and cat litter or rock salt. You will be glad that you have them if your car slides off the road and gets stuck in the snow.

There is always the chance that you could get stranded along the road while you are traveling by car. The causes of stranding vary from car problems to a multi-car pile up on the Interstate. Being prepared for anything will lessen the anxiety you experience as you make your way from your home to your destination and back. Using this guide is a great way to prepare for any situation you may face during your travels.

Road Trip Preparation Tips

March 18, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Road trips are a great way to get out of town and spend time with the people you love. However, they can also be very stressful and uncomfortable for some people, as they do not travel well by car. This is especially true when you are traveling with kids. Use the following guidelines to prepare for the next road trip you take with your family.

One of the most important things you can do prior to leaving home is to have your car serviced. Include an oil change and fluid and have filter checks performed. You want your car running its best while you make your way from your home to your destination.

Check the air in all of your tires. Be sure to check the air and the condition of your spare tire as well as the tires that are on your car. You do not want to have a blow out on the highway and not have a spare tire that is in good enough condition to use to get to a repair shop.

As you are checking the condition of your spare tire, make sure that all of the equipment that you need to change a tire are in your car. This includes a jack, tire iron and maybe a bag to keep your lug-nuts in as you do the change.

Either purchase or pack a first aid kit. Include things like Tylenol or Aspirin, band-aids, peroxide, Neosporin, etc. in the kit.

If your travel takes you through extreme terrain or climates, be sure to pack an emergency kit for the chance that you could end up stranded along the road. Include a shovel, rock salt, blankets, water and protein bars.

Include several stops along the way. You will want to give anyone that you are traveling with the chance to get out of the car and stretch their legs. Map out the rest areas along the way or some restaurants where you can stop, eat and relax for a bit before continuing your journey.

If you are traveling with children or restless adults, bring some sort of entertainment along. Portable DVD players, handheld video games, laptop computers or travel games should do the trick.

Pack small snack bags so you can easily distribute snacks to everyone that might get hungry or bored while you are traveling. Also, pack a small cooler with refreshing drinks that are not caffeinated. You want to be able to quench thirst without making anyone hyper from additional caffeine.

Inform someone that you trust where you are going, the route you are taking and where you will stay once you get there. Also, set a check-in time that you will use to contact this person to make them aware that all is well. It is best to have at least one person at home know where to look for your car if you do not contact them at that certain check-in time.

Have your camera handy. You need to be able to take pictures of an accident scene as soon as it happens. It is also nice to be able to get pictures of the scenery as you make your way to your destination.

Preparing for anything will make your road trip much more enjoyable. Use the tips above to plan for your next road trip and you will have a great time seeing the country on your way to your destination.
