The restaurants in Cancun offer countless varieties of food to tease your pallet. You can choose from economical Mexican cuisine up to luxury restaurants with all type of cuisines.

U.S. based franchise chains, which really need no introduction, populate the restaurant scene in Cancun. Which include such chains as the Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Cafe, Tony Roma’s, TGI Fridays, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and the gamut of fast-food burger places. Contrary to common travelers’ wisdom, many of Cancun’s best restaurants are located either in hotels or shopping malls.

Due to its international population, Cancun has restaurants offering French, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican and American cuisine. With so many restaurants, making a choice may be the hardest work you do while on vacation.

The majority of restaurants are in the Hotel Zone in Isla Cancun which is where most of the tourists who come to dine out. Large breakfasts or brunch buffets are the latest Cancun trend. A number of hotels and restaurants in the Hotel Zone have started offering all-you-can-eat affairs. Aside from the all-you-can-eat buffets and fast food outlets, there aren’t many inexpensive restaurants in the Hotel Zone. Prices range from moderately expensive to very expensive.

Don’t dismiss the dining in the city of Cancun where you are likely to find a great meal (at a fraction of the price). If you are on a budget and want to eat cheaply look for those downtown restaurants where the locals go to eat. Don’t be fooled by the inexpensive prices? Some of the best meals are found here.

Many of the restaurants in the Hotel Zone are closed until dinnertime. Those open for lunch only offer menus that include sandwiches, salads, soups or pasta. Lunch downtown is more traditional. Known as “Comida”, this is the major meal of the day for Mexicans. Shops and business still keeping traditional hours close between 1 pm and 4 pm in order to enjoy a leisurely lunch. Local restaurants get very busy at this time. There is usually some kind of daily special called “comida corrida” which varies from place to place. It’s usually the least expensive item on the menu with more food on your plate than you can eat. Don’t be shy about trying some of the local delights.

Mexico’s beach resorts, even the finest restaurants in town can be comfortably casual when it comes to dress. Men rarely wear jackets, although ladies are frequently seen in dressy resort wear.

The restaurants listed below are either locally owned, one-of-a-kind restaurants or exceptional selections at area hotels. Some feature live music as an accompaniment to the dining experience.

Lorenzillo´s – is famous for its live lobsters and delicious seafood dishes.

Club Grill – Cancun’s most elegant and stylish restaurant, located in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, is also among its most delicious. With a candlelit dining room with padded side chairs and tables shimmering with silver and crystal. Elegant plates of peppered scallops, truffles, and potatoes in tequila sauce; grilled lamb; or mixed grill arrive at a leisurely pace after the appetizer. The restaurant has both smoking and non-smoking sections. After dinner, take a turn on the dance floor, as a band plays romantic music from 8 p.m. on. Club Grill is the place for that truly special night out. A dress code is enforced: No sandals or tennis shoes, and gentlemen must wear long pants.

Captains Cove – Recognized for its consistent value, friendly service, and great sunset views from the upper deck. Diners face big, open windows overlooking the lagoon and Royal Yacht Club Marina. For breakfast, there’s an extremely popular all-you-can-eat buffet that beats the price and quality of most hotel buffets. Main courses of USDA Angus steak and seafood are the norm at lunch and dinner, and a special menu caters especially to children. Dessert stand outs include flaming coffees, crêpes, and Key lime pie. Captain’s Cove sits opposite the Omni Hotel.

Rolandi´s Pizzeria, Cancun – Rolandi´s offers you the best in Italian cuisine in town and the pizza is just delicious.

Casa Angelus – The newly opened restaurant Casa Angelus is a special place offering quality cuisine in an elegant atmosphere. This restaurant offers international cuisine, menu for children and a kids club.

Pericos – Fiesta! Has excellent food and good for a whole evening’s musical entertainment. This is our kids’ favorite restaurant anywhere.

Hacienda Chicken – Best place for breakfast lunch or dinner near the ruins of Cancun.

Cancun offers you the special opportunity to enjoy a delicious lobster dinner, a great show, and cruising on a boat through the Caribbean Sea or the Nichtulpe Lagoon at night.

You can find just about anything to eat in the restaurants of Cancun. Many Cancun restaurants have live music and décor that when combined with the cuisine and exceptional service makes for a superb dining experience. The hardest decision is choosing what you want to eat. So many flavors, so little time.
