Calaway Park

July 10, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks back my family went to Calaway Park and had a great day in the sun having fun.

Calaway Park is an amusement park just west of Calgary on Highway 1 (Tans Canada Highway) actually probably about 10 or 15 minutes west of town. If you want to see the way Calaway Park looks, I recorded the quick two minute video below.

The park has about 22 different rides and just like any theme park it seems that Calaway has it’s own theme which is something like the Flintstones without the characters. There is plenty of food to buy and it is of course a little pricey so we tend to pack a lunch to bring and then buy the kids a treat while we are there. [Read more…] about Calaway Park

Animals of Puerto Vallarta

March 19, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

The one-time fishing village today offers tourists of all tastes and desires their time in the sun.

If it’s the good life you crave, there’s Marina Vallarta and its high-end hotels, world famous luxury yacht marina and 18-hole championship golf course.

This is the place to hook up with a fishing charter to drag a few lines around Banderas Bay, one of the world’s premier big game sport fishing locations.

More modest digs can be found in the Vallarta’s Hotel Zone, though many of its hotels and resorts are still of very high international standard. Beaches are sandy and plentiful here, and not surprisingly, water sports of all kind are available all along the Hotel Zone. [Read more…] about Animals of Puerto Vallarta

Saunas in Thunder Bay

March 12, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

I found the following story from Coastal Living Magazine about the small town of Thunder Bay and the influence of all the people from Finland that have settled there. Thunder Bay is in next to the Great Lakes in Ontario Canada.

As the temperature nears 200 degrees Fahrenheit, I peer through the steam at 75-year-old Pentti Hirvonen. “It’s time,” he says.

Finland’s love of saunas has taken root along the shores of Lake Superior.

He opens the sauna door and steps outside, where it’s several degrees below zero. I follow him, barefoot through snow, to a hole in a lake, my feet too hot to even register the temperature. He breaks the thin sheet of ice that has formed in the few minutes we have been inside. Without ceremony, he jumps in, deliberately splashing his face and shoulders. My turn will come next.

Thousands of miles separate Thunder Bay, Ontario, from Finland, but the country’s love of saunas has taken root along the shores of Lake Superior. The Canadian outpost is a miniature Helsinki, with one of the largest populations of Finns outside Europe. [Read more…] about Saunas in Thunder Bay

Basic Stuff That Everyone Should Know When It Comes To Going On Cruises And How You Are Expected To Act

February 21, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

There is plenty that you all need to know when it comes to going on cruises and how you are expected to act while you are at sea. Too many people go on cruises and decide that they can just absolutely make a fool out of themselves, so what you all should know before going on your next cruise or if you have never had the opportunity to go on a cruise is that it is very important that you act civilized and appropriate throughout the entire cruise. They will not tolerate anyone being on their ship in a drunken state and harassing any other individuals on the cruise nor will they tolerate anyone being disrespectful in any way whatsoever. You would think that we are all adults and nobody should have to tell us how we are expected to act out in public but unfortunately that is not always the case at all. There are always those individuals that feel as though they have to ruin things for everyone.

Going on a cruise is supposed to be paradise, you are going to have the opportunity to see and do things that you might not ever get the chance to ever experience again so you should all really plan on having the time of your lives and behaving while you are on cruises, no matter how much you might have had to drink or anything else. It is absolutely in no way acceptable to go on cruises and act like an idiot, so do not even try and think about behaving so inappropriately while you are on your cruise. Have a good time, if you do choose to party, that is great, however, you are expected to be a mature and very responsible adult. Another thing that all of you should know whenever you go on cruises is that if you are loaded with many or jewels there should be no reason whatsoever why you would want to let everyone aboard the ship know about this because if you do you are only asking for trouble, you never know who might be on that cruise with you. If you cherish your valuables, do not take them along with you on cruises, use some common sense when it comes to packing and taking care of yourself and your belongings any time that you leave home for any period of time.

Always be considerate of other people on board because there will be tons of people on there with you and it is really important for you to remember that it is not all about you but many others are trying to have a good time as well. There is no reason to try and spoil anyone else’s vacation or getaway, no matter what. If you can remember all of these things whenever you do go on any cruises then you and everyone else should be able to have the best time of your lives.

Beach Holidays for Fun in the Sun

February 20, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

Everyone loves beach holidays! The little ones can dig in the sand and splash in the lapping waves. The older ones can swim, get a tan, or just relax. The inquisitive types can explore for sea life, tide pools, and drift wood. The warm breezes and natural beauty are invigorating and restorative. Any trip, however, can cause discomfort if you do not plan well. Here are things you can do to make your beach holidays easier, safer, and more meaningful.

In many parts of the world, people head for their beach holidays in the family car. When planning a trip, it’s always a good idea to give the car a good cleaning out first. This will give you more room for your luggage. Stock you glovebox, too, with a few first aid and comfort items, such as sunblock, acetominiphen for headaches, a roll of antacids, a few cough drops, and a few bandaids. Don’t forget a couple of scrunchies or pony-tailers for long hair. Get the tires checked and replace any that are likely to go flat. Get an oil change if it’s getting close. Road trips are not much fun when they include breakdowns. And whatever you do, make sure you have a map and a place to keep it handy.

Travelling with kids is always a challenge. They may be particularly excited and impatient when they know they are going on beach holidays. Make sure they have cool water bottles and healthy snacks to munch. Try a simple car game to make the time pass. Many kids like looking for letters of the alphabet on signs. If several people get involved it can be quite fun.

With beach holidays particularly, there is always a need to provide for skin safety. Be particularly careful about being in the sun for long stretches of time between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Use a sunblock with a high SPF rating and replace it after getting wet or drying off with your towel. The towel you choose can make a difference too. Thick towels get heavy and tend to trap a lot of sand. You may find you like thin towels at the beach. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes and some sort of foot protection to keep your feet from being burned on the hot sand.

With a little preparation your beach holidays can be enjoyable and problem-free. When you arrive home you will be relaxed, refreshed, and ready for work. Take a minute to unpack and get your laundry going. It won’t belong until the kids will be shouting, “When can we go on beach holidays again?”
