Lessen Stress During Travel With Kids

March 5, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Many great family memories are made while on the family vacations over the years. It can sometimes be difficult to remember all of the good times when they are being wiped out by the stressful times that can occur. Parents want to have just as much fun as the kids do while traveling and the following tips can help that happen.

The hotel that you choose to stay in can play a key role in the enjoyment level that you experience while you are on vacation. Finding a kid-friendly hotel is crucial to the entire family’s enjoyment. Kids need to be allowed to have a good time when they are in their hotel. Avoid stuffy and uptight hotels and opt for ones that have play areas, swimming pools, arcades and other things that are welcoming to kids.

Buy a few new toys and do not allow your kids to know that you have them. Mix those new toys in with some of the kids’ favorite toys. Once you feel your kids need the excitement of a new toy, break it out and surprise them with it. The toys that you pick should not have a bunch of small parts. If you choose to get a toy that has multiple pieces, be sure to pack a bag that they can put the pieces into when they are done playing with them.

Do not allow your family to get hungry at any point during your vacation. If people are hungry, they get irritable. This can cause a great deal of stress for you as you are trying to enjoy yourself. Try new foods while you are traveling, but be sure that they offer a menu with enough variety to offer everyone something that they will enjoy eating.

A portable DVD player or two may be your salvation if you are traveling for extended periods of time. If you can afford to get one for each of your kids or borrow some from friends or family, you can allow your kids to pick the DVD of their choice and give them some headphones. This should keep them content for at least the length of the movie.

Bring a stuffed animal, security blanket or special toy along. If you provide your child with at least one item that you know makes them happy when times are rough, you should be able to ease their concerns, pains or unhappiness for a bit with them.

Plan some travel games for in the car. Older kids love to play license plate bingo, while younger ones just enjoy the challenge of finding a car for every color in the rainbow. You can get creative and make up games on your own, or look for travel game ideas online or in stores. Keeping everyone entertained is the best way to keep everyone happy, which in turn keeps you happy.

You should be able to enjoy the time that you are lucky enough to spend traveling with your kids. Create fond memories that everyone will cherish by using the tips that you have learned here. Have some family fun and lighten up!

Is Your Teen Ready To Travel?

March 4, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Teens love the feeling of being treated like adults. But is your teen ready to be given the independence of traveling alone? Some teens are more ready than others to experience life on their own for a few days. Consider the ideas from this article to recognize whether or not your teen is ready to go on vacation!

It is very important to consider whether or not your teen is comfortable with traveling alone. This is determined by many factors in his or her personality. Ponder whether or not your teen has ever shown any responsibility while acting alone. Would you trust your teen to make all of the right decisions? Ask your teen whether or not they feel comfortable acting as their own guardian and making adult decisions, even in tough situations.

Is your teen outgoing enough to seek help from strangers? It isn’t entirely advisable asking strangers for help unless your teen is able to recognize good-natured citizens. Young tourists can often be the target of crimes. Make sure that your teen recognizes the tell-tale signs of a criminal and knows when to shy away from asking questions. Outgoing teens will probably feel the most comfortable asking locals for help.

Can your teen make a purchase at a local store? It is important that your teen is able to go shopping while away. Send him or her to the local grocery store once or twice and see how he or she manages. It is the first sign of being able to do something independent and making decisions that can impact the day.

Is your teen able to read the reader boards at the local airport? This is a very important task because it is essentially what determines which gate your teen needs to travel to so he or she doesn’t miss the flight. If your teen is not sure how to handle the reader boards, consider taking him or her to the airport and giving a simple tutorial.

Is your teen knowledgeable in handling emergencies? Does he or she know who to contact? It is important that your teen knows who to contact for different emergencies. This means that they understand when a crime is committed they need to call local authorities. If they need help while traveling abroad, let them know that they can contact you as needed. Have him or her check in with you several times throughout the day to keep you up to date.

Has your teen ever been away from home? It is important to consider whether or not your teen has ever traveled alone. Those teens that have will prove to be more independent and outgoing than those who haven’t. This is probably the most important and final factor in determining whether or not your teen is ready to go and take a vacation without a chaperone.

Teens can start learning independence and responsibility by traveling alone. However, there are some things that as a parent you should teach your teen before letting him or her travel independently. The questions and ideas discussed in this article will help determine your decision.

International Travel the Simple and Fun Way

March 3, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Taking a trip to another country can be both exciting and enlightening. On the down side, if you are not used to this other environment, it can be pretty overwhelming. There is so much to manage with when dealing with international travel, including getting a passport and adapting to foreign customs. In order to make your trip much simpler, you should follow the advice given in the following article.

Many people travel to other countries without trying to get a good grip of the language that is spoken there. While nobody expects you to be perfectly fluent, you should not be making any mistakes that might offend someone. Try your best to get a grasp of words and phrases that are used fairly often. Do your best to learn the language, and make sure to take a translator tool with you in case you have any problems trying to communicate with anyone on your trip.

Every country has holidays and customs that they observe, and it would show them some respect if you took the time to get to know them. While you may think that there is nothing particularly wrong with the way you act regularly, make sure that there is nothing that you do often that someone in the country you are visiting may take offense to.

Before you leave home, make sure to make a few copies of your passport and all of your other important documents. You should carry at least one copy with you in the event that you misplace the originals while you are gone. The other copies should be left with people that you can trust. They may need to send them to you in case of an emergency.

When you are planning your trip and you have all of your plans hammered out, make sure to let a friend and/or relative know what is on your itinerary. While exploring a new country, it is very easy to become lost, and you do not want your family to be worried about you in case you have not contacted them. If they know where you are supposed to be, they will be able to get in touch with the proper people in order to make sure that you are safe and having a good time.

Traveling across different times zones can be very taxing on your body. Your internal clock is normally set for the time zone that you live in, and going to a different one is likely to throw that off drastically. You should try to adjust your schedule as much as you can before you leave so that you do not have a difficult time once you get where you are going.

As mentioned before, traveling to other countries can be very enlightening and exciting. Do not let any of your fears stop you from experiencing all that this new place has to offer you. The advice in this article should help you have a travel experience that is life-changing and free of stress.

What You Can Do To Make Your Traveling Experience More Enjoyable

March 2, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

When you are traveling, your experience should be an enjoyable one. But how can you prevent disaster from occurring when you travel? Keep reading to learn some tips to make sure your trip goes smoothly and that you have a good time.

Look over your itinerary to make sure everything on it is correct. For example, call the hotel to make sure you have the correct dates and check-in times. One of the worst things that can happen when you are going on a vacation is to have the incorrect information written down; this can ruin all of your plans.

Create a list of things you are going to need on your vacation. When you put each item in your luggage, check it off the list. By having a list, you are ensuring that you do not forget anything you really need. This will also save you a lot of time when you are packing.

Be sure that everything is taken care of when you are away. For instance, if you have a dog, be sure you have someone to watch over him or her. And if your plants need to be watered, be sure someone can come and do so. You want your vacation to be stress-free, and having these things taken care of in advance can allow you to relax.

The night before leaving for your trip, be sure you get enough sleep. Nothing is worse than traveling when you are sleep-deprived. When you are tired, you cannot function as well and your memory may not be functioning too well. These factors can cause major disasters on your trip.

It is crucial that you have enough cash on you. You never know what could happen that requires you to have cash. Let’s say your bank card does not work and you need money, then what do you do? On the other hand, you do not want to want to carry too much money on you, just in case you were to get mugged.

Be sure that you eat when you are traveling. If you are on a plane, this could mean eating a meal and peanuts for a dessert. Food provides you with energy, which is something you really need when you are traveling. Without it, you will feel hungry and get cranky.

Prior to packing for your vacation, be sure to check the weather forecast to the place you are traveling to. Let’s say the weekly temperatures in your destination will be in the 80’s. You do not want to pack sweaters and boots and be hot the whole time. You can check out pretty much any location’s weather forecast by looking on the Internet.

As noted in the beginning of this article, traveling should be a fun experience. You should do whatever you can to make sure no unforeseen, negative events occur on vacation. Use the advice you have just read and your next trip will be the best one you have ever had!

What To Carry In An Emergency Roadside Kit

March 1, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

A roadside emergency is possible at anytime. Whether you have a new car or an old clunker, there is the possibility of the car having mechanical problems or a weather-related problem that can cause you to get stranded. Being prepared for this possibility can reduce your stress, make you safer, and help you get on the road more quickly.

If your car has mechanical problems or a flat tire, you need to let other drivers know that your car is stopped. This is especially important if your car is disabled due to an accident and is stuck in the roadway. Your kit should include road flares, a couple of triangular hazard lights, and a battery-powered warning light. If you are stuck and visibility is low, make sure you use all of these to help other drivers avoid an accident.

Before going on a long trip, make sure your spare tire is inflated properly. It is good to do this when ever you get an oil change as well. In your kit, carry a tire gauge.

Do not talk and drive, but do keep a cell phone in your vehicle. If there is an emergency, you want to be able to call for help. If you do not normally carry a cell phone, purchase an inexpensive pre-paid phone and keep enough minutes on the phone that you can use it in case of emergency. Always keep a car cell phone charger in your vehicle.

Jumper cables or a portable battery booster is an essential part of any emergency roadside kit. Jumper cables and portable battery boosters are easy to use, and you can keep the instructions in the vehicle in case you forget which side is positive or negative when you are stressed.

In your trunk, you should have a jack and lug wrench that works on your vehicle and tires. If you purchase a new or used vehicle, these items may not come with the car and you would then need to purchase them. Before taking a long trip, test the lug wrench to make sure you are able to loosen the lug nuts. Tire service centers usually use a tool to tighten lug nuts, and this can make it impossible for you to loosen them. A lug wrench is useless if you are not able to use it!

A few odds and ends that also belong in your roadside kit include: an emergency blanket, disposable camera with a flash, gloves, hand cleaner, rags or shop towels, flashlight with extra batteries, pad of paper and pen, and twenty dollars in small bills and change. Also, keep a card with the phone numbers of your roadside assistance club, like AAA, and your auto insurance provider.

In addition to making sure that you have a proper roadside emergency kit in your vehicle, also take time to get periodic maintenance checks on your vehicle. Making sure your vehicle is ready to drive is a good way to prevent roadside emergencies.
