Did you know that there are more people learning English in China than the entire population of the United States? That adds up to a massive demand for TEFL teachers, making it the number one TEFL destination. But it isn’t the high demand for TEFL teachers that makes China so attractive, oh no! Check out these five reasons of why you should be packing your bags and heading to China ASAP.

1- Food, Glorious Food

So I’m sure most of you are a fan of Chinese food, but it’s not until you go to China that you can experience real Chinese food at its best! No matter which city, town or village you go to in China, you’ll easily be able to get your hands on delicious, cheap and freshly cooked food. Food in China is a massive part of the culture and you can certainly tell!

2- Friendly Locals

As the new TEFL teacher in town, you’ll find the locals will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. You’ll be inundated with offers of meals and tours of the local area. It may as well be a law in China to make sure Westerners are made to feel welcome!

3- The Great Wall of China

How the Great Wall of China isn’t one of the Seven Wonders of the World I’ll never know! The Great Wall is something everyone should see in their lifetime. It’s one of the biggest and oldest parts of Chinese history after all.

4- Fascinating Culture

China has such a fascinating culture and it’s only when you’re living and teaching there that you really get a feel for the culture. From colourful wedding traditions to many vibrant festivals, Chinese culture is certainly something else!

5- Amazing Scenery

Okay, so China may not have a good rap for its scenery and is known for its smog and ugly buildings. Beyond that though, you’ll actually find lots of parts in China have amazing scenic views. From stunning rock formations that emerge from misty rivers, to tranquil temples and spectacular skyscrapers. China really does have a lot to offer and you’ll have the chance to see it all for yourself with your free time at the weekends.

If you’ve been inspired to check out China for yourself, you could be heading out there in August for an amazing adventure with i-to-i-
