Why you should vacation this Summer

With the down economy, should we forgo vacation this summer?

According to travel expert, and syndicated columnist Eileen Ogintz, the answer is no.

She says you’ll find amazing deals that you haven’t seen in years wherever you want to go and remember, the kids will only be this age once. Go make the memories!

So where should we go?

Ogintz suggests you try something you’ve never done- a cruise, a white water raft trip, a visit to New York City or Boston.

She says Vail resorts are touting all-inclusive mountain vacations for the first time ever!

How do we get a deal?

Ogintz’s best advice is to do your homework online!

If you book a package on a website like Travelocity or Orbitz, for example, you can save 30-percent.

She also suggests looking for discount coupons like those from City Pass that save you significantly when touring area attractions-and allow you to skip lines too.

You can also call the hotel/resort/cruiseline directly and ask what else they can do for you — upgrade, free breakfast, resort credit, discounted second room for the kids.

So with a little time, research and bargaining, you and your family can still find that perfect vacation this summer.

Yeah, if you’re planning on visiting New York or Boston and plan on taking in a couple attractions, I would recommend looking into the CityPasses that are offered. If you’re going to go to even a couple attractions these are well worth the money and you have nine days to use them during your stay.
