Tips for Teens Traveling Alone

April 25, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

There are teens everywhere that have traveled across the country and even abroad all by themselves. This can be a learning experience, which could be fun and very rewarding. There are several things that you should be concerned about when your teen is planning on traveling alone and this article will help you with that.

The first thing that you need to do is talk to your teen to find out if they are truly comfortable with traveling alone. The last thing that you want is a nervous teen trying to travel somewhere new on their own. There are people out there that prey on nervous teens, so you want to make sure that your teen is full of confidence when they leave and they keep their eyes open for suspicious characters.

Your teen should not be going up to just anyone and asking for help, but you need to know if they are able to ask for help from the right people when they need it. There will not always be well-known trusted people like policemen wherever they go, so you have to let them know how they can know who to ask for help when and if they might need it.

You do not want your teen traveling with a lot of cash on him or her because that is just asking for trouble. It would be best of you gave your teen a debit card that has a limited amount of money on it. You can transfer money to that card as needed. You do not want to put too much on the card at once in case they misplace it. if they are traveling internationally you may want to give them a few travelers checks to have on hand.

It is very important that travelers know how to read the readerboard at the airport. They need to understand it in case there is some vital information about their flight on it. You can go online and find a site that will make it very clear. That way you know they will be aware of their flight details at all times.

Your teen should always be aware of who to contact in case there is an emergency. They should have someone’s number other than your own in case they cannot reach you. The numbers of any law enforcement agencies should be given to them as well.

If your teen has never traveled far from home with you then this will most likely make them very nervous. Talk them through it so that they know what they can expect while on their trip. When traveling internationally things may be a bit different than they are at home, so you have to research to find out who should be contacted in case of an emergency.

Your teen can have a very good experience traveling alone as long as they are safe. This will help them become more independent and gain some of your trust. The information that was provided here in this article will help you prepare your teen for this new experience.

Tips for Taveling With Ease

April 24, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Traveling can be a very fun experience for you, particularly because there is so much to see and explore. Making sure to plan well before traveling will make your trip more enjoyable. Without the proper research and planning your dream vacation can easily turn into a nightmare. Here are a few tips that will make your trip free of stress.

Do some research online so that you know what to expect from anywhere that you plan on traveling to. Whether you find places that are indoors or outdoors, trips are always better when you have a good idea of what you want to do before you get there. It is also no fun being lost in a place that is not familiar to you. Write down a pretty good sized list of where you would like to go in case you change your mind after you are already there.

If you take any medications, you need to make sure that you take some with you when you are traveling. It is very difficult to get your hands on necessary medication when you are so far away from home. You should take a few extra in case something happens and you end up being away from home longer than you originally anticipated.

Not all bank cards are able to be used internationally so it is up to you to check ahead of time to make sure it is. If it is not, you can get a new card from a bank that does allow usage in other countries. Other options include using credit cards and traveler’s checks. You should also keep in mind the fact that the ATM fees for international withdrawals and cash advances are a bit higher than normal, so you should plan ahead for that.

While it is helpful to write down all of the places you plan on visiting, you would be doing yourself a huge favor if you got a hold of a street map of your intended destination. This would be very helpful since studying it will make you more familiar with the area once you get there. This is also helpful if you want to do some exploring since there is less of a chance that you will get lost, and you will have your map available in case you do.

When you are traveling you should always make it a point to familiarize yourself with the weather report for the area you are visiting. You do not want to travel with clothes and accessories that are not appropriate for the weather conditions in the place that you are visiting.

Preparing for a trip well ahead of time ensures that your trip will be very smooth. Use the tips in the above article to make sure that you set the tone for your trip before you even leave home. Preparing well will make your trip better because you will spend more time relaxing and enjoying your surroundings instead of dealing with small issues and inconveniences.

Tips for Taking Pets on Road Trips

April 23, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Most of the time, your pet will not enjoy being in a car for long periods of time, but they may enjoy it more if you prepare well for it.

In order to make your pet comfortable being in the backseat of a car for a long time, you should place a blanket on the seat. Your pet will thank you, since it is not very comfortable, particularly when you have leather seats. According to one of the best veterinary doctors you should also place one or two of his or her favorite toys on the floorboard of the backseat so your pet have something for entertainment. You can even visit an emergency vet to get some medication to calm your pet down while you get to your destination. Making sure you have the information for the nearest veterinarian hospital is very important when traveling with pets.

Make sure that you have plenty of food and water for him or her to enjoy while you are on your trip. The last thing you want is to have a cranky pet in the backseat of your car. It will be more comforting for him or her if you bring along the dishes that they normally eat out of.

While you might feel the need to drive for long periods of time without stopping, you should still stop frequently to let your pet get a little rest. He or she may need to do some stretching of the legs, have something to eat and/or go to the bathroom. It would be good to stop after every two to three hours of driving to give him or her a break.

Talking to your pet while you are on the way to where you are going is a good idea because it will keep them distracted from the fact that you are on a pretty long trip. You may also want to put your radio on and sing some songs that you know will put him or her in a fairly good mood.

If your pet is not feeling well during the trip, you should lay down an extra blanket or a towel. You do not want him or her to get sick all over the inside of your vehicle. That would make the rest of the ride pretty unpleasant for both of you.

Even if the weather is not the best, you should keep one of the rear windows rolled down a little. This will provide your pet with some fresh air so they do not feel as if they are closed in. Do not put the window down too far because you do not want your pet to stick his or her head too far out of the window.

Make sure to maintain some type of physical contact with your pet. A simple rub or nuzzle will let your pet know that he or she is cared for and loved. Ignoring your pet will only make him or her feel neglected.

It is important that you make your pet feel comfortable on any road trip that you plan on taking them on. That is very easy to do with the help of the tips outlined above.

Tips for Taking Children on Road Trips

April 22, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Most of the time when a family has smaller children in it they dread going on road trips. Young ones tend to become restless and they make the trip more difficult for everyone. This does not have to be the case at all. Here are several tips that will help you have a pleasant trip.

Bring some activities with you that can be done in the car. Many game manufacturers have travel versions of their games for this particular reason, and you should take full advantage of that. Other options that are handy for traveling by car are books, handheld video games and dolls.

Surprise your child with a new toy that you brought especially for this trip. When children get new things they tend to obsess over these things for hours. The fact that they are so involved with this new toy means they will not have any time for tantrums and things of that nature.

These days there are several portable DVD players available and you should purchase one if you travel a lot with children. Bring a few of their favorite movies when you are going on a trip. They will be so engrossed in the film that they will not have time to think about anything that is not pleasant.

Make sure that you bring along a lot of snacks when you are on a road trip since little ones tend to get antsy when they are hungry. Trying to bring large boxes and/or large baggies of food that you have to dole can be very inconvenient. The best thing to do is to buy snacks that are in small individual serve portions.

Even if your child is constantly complaining that they are thirsty, you should limit the amount of liquid you give them. If you let them drink as much as they want then you will end up having to make constant stops so that they can use the bathroom. This will make your trip longer than it has to be.

Plan a few stops on your trip that are good places that your children can run around at and be loud. You want them to let all of that energy out somewhere other than the car. A good way to do that is to find places like parks and zoos that are along the way.

While you will have to make a good amount of stops while the children are awake, try to avoid stopping while the children are asleep. Take advantage of the way that you are able to travel uninterrupted and do as much driving as you can. Be careful when doing this, and stop if you are too exhausted because you do not want to have an accident.

When you are traveling with children the key is to keep them entertained as much as you can. That way they will be less likely to get restless. Use the tips that were in the above article to make your travels more enjoyable for all of you.

Book hotel rooms with kitchenettes

April 21, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

kitchenetteOur last two family vacations have really taught me the value of having a kitchenette. Kitchettes are small kitchens in a hotel room usually comprised of a stovetop, microwave, toaster, fridge, sink and pots and dishes.

In Disneyland in Anaheim we stayed at a hotel that had a microwave and free breakfast. The free breakfast is always a plus when we are booking a hotel and I know that when I go away for business I always try to make sure that I have a free continental breakfast in the hotel to save time.

In Disneyland this strategy did not work out so well. We found that the breakfast was offered across the complex from our hotel room and there was no seating so we would have to bring back our toast and cereal. Second the food was not very good there was no jam, the butter was some kind of squeezable butter and the cereal was just the crappy stuff the kids always want to grab. To make things worse there was always a lineup in the morning for the poor breakfast.

After the first day of our Disney vacation we went to WalMart for Jam, bagels, cereal and milk and all the snacks that we would need for the week. [Read more…] about Book hotel rooms with kitchenettes
