I am just getting this blog and site in general going and would like to do a bit of a descriptor of why I am starting to give this infomration and why I should be doing it.
I have been married for 10 years and have two kids. My daughter is eight and my son is four. Over the last few years I have been working for a big Canadian airline (not in reservation or marketing or customer service, IT is for me) and in looking around the internet I find that there is a lot of disjointed information about family travel.
Families have much different priorities then singles or newly married couples or seniors and other retirees. The last few times that we went on vacations I had a really hard time finding any good information that is focussed on family vacations. I would like to change that by organizing all information that I can find for us families, this will be great for me and my family as well as you and yours I sure hope.
What kind of family vacation history do we have as a family?
When I was a kid as far back as I can remember our family went camping in the summer and once every few years we would drive down from Vancouver and spend a week or two in California and Disneyland.
20 Years ago I started my life of travel by spending 2 and a half months backpacking through Australia and Fiji.
Years ago when my daughter was just a newborn we went on a long driving trip through all of the western US in 16 days. Good vacation but we of course ran into lots of problems and learned a lot.
We have also as a family now gone on several family vacations, everything from Cancun, to camping to Hawaii and finally of course we have done lots of weekend trips away.
So sure I have some experience traveling and I am sure that others have more or less experience but to me there is a passion with travel and a real wish to know more and understand what all those guys on the TV travel show go through.
So let’s go through all of this together. Let’s learn what it will take to plan a great family vacation, what to do, what to see, how to stay safe and how to share the greatest memories with our family in the process.
