Hawaii Vacation Things to do

September 18, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

Hawaii is a gorgeous place for any family to visit for vacation.  The fiftieth American state, Hawaii consists of the islands of Hawaii (the Big Island), Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai, and Niihau, plus many smaller islands and islets.  Of these islands, the Big Island, Maui, and Oahu are probably the most popular vacation destinations for family vacations to Hawaii.

Here are a few ideas to get you started when planning your Hawaiian vacation:

Surf Family Style

During your family vacation to Hawaii, you can get surfing lessons on Oahu’s north shore from Surf Hawaii 4 U.  Professional surf instructors can teach your whole family how to surf while on your vacation to Hawaii.  Group lessons with at least three people participating start at $300 for a three-hour surfing lesson.  So catch a wave, cause surf’s up, dude!

Visit the Volcanoes

You probably already knew that volcanoes in the Pacific Ocean formed Hawaii.  But did you also know that your family could take a helicopter tour over the still-active volcanoes on the Big Island while on your family vacation to Hawaii?  Or, if your family would rather see the volcano from the ground, Big Island Volcano Tours will take your family on a volcano and waterfall sight-seeing tour.  Make sure your family wears comfortable shoes for walking or hiking, and that all the members of your family will be happy walking at least a mile to see Hawaii’s lava flows and rainforest’s.

Learn about Culture

To educate your family about Hawaii’s unique culture and history, visit the Polynesian Cultural Center during your family vacation on Hawaii’s island of Oahu.  Your family can enjoy the Polynesian Night Show there, learn the history of the luau, and the younger members of your family can attend one of the Ohana Adventures – shows and hands-on activities designed specifically for children.

Stargaze

Atop Mauna Kea, a snow-capped Hawaiian mountain on the Big Island, your family can visit the Onizuka Center for International Astronomy.  Visit at night for a stargazing tour with your family on your vacation to Hawaii, where you can use one of the telescopes already atop the mountain to pick out famous constellations, nebulae, distant galaxies, and other glimpses of the heavens.  Astronomy center workers are available to answer your family’s questions and point out where to look for certain stars.

A family vacation to Hawaii is sure to impress both the kids and the adults in your family.  Whether you are interested in the unique culture, ecosystem, and volcanic activity, or you just want to hit the beach, Hawaii is a family vacation crowd-pleaser.

Planning a Family Cruise

September 17, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

Cruises are becoming more and more popular for families.

It’s the best way to travel to lands beyond the ordinary, and passengers have choices that range from intimate, small-scale river cruises to luxurious vacations aboard some of the world’s finest ships.

From there, they can choose family, themed and adventure cruises. The seemingly endless choices are also the reason why cruising is one of the fastest-growing forms of travel.

Destinations such as South America used to see only a few ships sailing along the coasts of Argentina and Chile. Today, all the major cruise lines sail around Cape Horn, the southernmost tip of South America.

A 14-day cruise exposes passengers to unique natural wonders, including magnificent fiords and the penguins that inhabit them. Destinations such as the Baltics and the Mediterranean are growing at double-digit rates, as are Australia and New Zealand. [Read more…] about Planning a Family Cruise

Destination Guide – Cabo San Lucas

September 16, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

I have not been to Cabo in years but it remains as a very popular vacation spot mostly becasue of it’s quiet fishing village aura and the fact that it sits on the edge of the beautiful Pacific Ocean at the tip of the Baja Peninisula. Maybe not so much for families you can usually find cheaper accomadations here than on the Carribean side of Mexico and you will still have a fantastic vacation.

The bay of  Cabo San Lucas , at the southernmost tip of Baja, was once a base for pirate ships waiting to pounce on Spanish treasure ships. Even fifteen years ago, it was little more than a fishing and canning village occasionally visited by adventurous sports fishermen with the means to sail in or fly down, but it quickly earned a reputation for the marlin that could be caught here, and the once-quiet place found itself inundated with fishermen in search of El Marlin Azul, home to sleek, radar-equipped fishing yachts.

In recent years, it has rapidly become the focal point of Los Cabos: million-dollar condos have sprung up, palms have been transplanted, golf courses have been laid, water has been piped in from San José and everywhere is kept pristine. More like an enclave of the US than part of Mexico, preserving almost nothing that is not geared to tourism, it can be fun for a day or two, unless, of course, you want to fish or dive.

Though prices are higher than in neighbouring San José, there’s more of a party atmosphere, with a younger crowd. Currently there are some 3000 rooms for rent, and the local feeling is that 10,000 is the next feasible “goal” that would equate the town with the long-established resorts such as Mazatlán or Acapulco. Upcoming developments include an enormous mall that will comprise a convention centre, a theatre complex, a bowling alley, a huge parking outlet and condos, and there are even plans for an artificial island to sit in the bay, complete with restaurants and bars

The Town
With its great sands and fascinating marine life, Cabo San Lucas should be one of the most attractive spots in Baja. Above all there’s the huge rock arch at Finisterra – Land’s End, where the Sea of Cortés meets the Pacific – an extraordinary…

Destination Guide – Cancun

September 16, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

For Families there is almost no better place to go for a nice quiet and safe vacation than going to one of the many all inclusive resorts of Cancun Mexico. We went a while back and found many things to love about Cancun and the entire Mayan Riviera south of the city.

CANCUN is, if nothing else, proof of Mexico’s remarkable ability to get things done in a hurry if the political will is there. A fishing village of 120 people as recently as 1970, it’s now a city with a resident population of half a million and receives almost two million visitors a year.

To some extent the computer selected its location well. Cancún is marginally closer to Miami than it is to Mexico City, and if you come on an all-inclusive package tour the place has a lot to offer: striking modern hotels on white-sand beaches; high-class entertainment including parachuting, jet-skiing, scuba-diving and golf; a hectic nightlife; and from here much of the rest of the Yucatán is easily accessible.

For the independent traveller, though, it is expensive, and can be frustrating and unwelcoming. You may well be forced to spend the night here, but without pots of money the true pleasures of the place will elude you. There are, in effect, two quite separate parts to Cancun: the zona commercial downtown – the shopping and residential centre which, as it gets older, is becoming genuinely earthy – and the zona hotelera , a string of hotels and tourist amenities around “Cancún island”, actually a narrow strip of sandy land connected to the mainland at each end by causeways. It encloses a huge lagoon, so there’s water on both sides.

The Town and beaches of Cancun
There’s little to see in downtown Cancún. Most visitors head straight for the zona hotelera and the beaches. Though you’re free to go anywhere, and signposted public walkways lead down to the sea at regular intervals,…

Tips to travelling with the kids

September 15, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

Found this list from Cosavoo.com and wanted to share. As we all know there are a lot of things to think about when we travel with our very young children and here are some tips that make it that much easier for everyone.

Ask the hotel about child facilities

Some resorts are built for couples, with lots of spas and romantic nooks. Kids will hate this. You need a resort with plenty of indoor recreational facilities, where they can play safely, and happily. Some hotels will even offer babysitting or child care services, so you can do some shopping or sight seeing on your own, without someone tugging at your knee and saying, “Mommy, can we go now?”

Don’t overload the itinerary

Kids get tired more easily, or can rapidly become overstimulated and cranky. Make sure that the itinerary leaves lots of room for resting, snacks, or (if you’re taking toddlers) even naps. commercial carpet cleaners you should only cover two major destinations in one day (one in the morning, another in the afternoon). If you want to see more sights, make arrangements to leave your child to rest in the hotel (see tip number one) and do it on your own.

Bring a “child care pack”

This includes lots of water (kids get dehydrated more easily), an extra change of clothes, and small toys to amuse them at restaurants, it would also be better if your child is already potty trained before the trip, you wouldn’t have to worry as much, hire a Poo Logix helper to train him a few months before an important trip .

If you are going to a warm place (like a beach or a tropical country) remember that kids are more vulnerable to sunstroke and sunburn. Bring sunblock, a handheld battery-operated fan, and sports drinks (which will help them retain water). Avoid bringing them out in the hottest times of the day.
